While CBD is becoming much more of a household name than ever before, it’s still steeped in a good deal of mystery. Let’s dissect CBD and navigate some of the most frequently asked questions we get.

What is CBD?

CBD is short for cannabidiol and is one of the most abundant cannabinoids found in cannabis. Unlike THC, CBD is known to be non-psychoactive in the sense that it doesn’t contribute to the ‘high’ you get after consuming (drink, eat, vape, or smoke) cannabis.

This, however, does not mean it holds no therapeutic value. In fact, the compound is now a subject of research in the medical field to see how well it can be used to address certain medical conditions in patients.

Even though it is not a psychoactive ingredient, CBD still has a lot of applications for its users. Because every body is diverse and responds to CBD differently, it can be implemented for a variety of health concerns including relief from everyday stressors, focus, inflammation, and so much more.

CBD is an adaptogen that works innately with your body through the endocannabinoid system (ECS) to work towards homeostasis and optimal health. So, while you may be taking CBD as a recovery tool after exercise, you may even notice that your sleep improves.

 What Is CBD Used For?

What Does CBD Feel Like?

CBD is non-psychoactive — the straight-edge cousin of THC — so you won’t feel high. At the end of the day, because CBD is so dependent on the individual, truly, everyone’s experience may be different. Its effect is tailored to what you’re experiencing internally — some people feel focused and alert, while others may feel a sense of calm and relaxation.

The best way to find out what CBD feels like is to try it yourself! Be your own scientist and experiment with different delivery methods and dosages and take notes!

Again, this is one of those questions that is subjective in many more ways than just one. The time it takes for your CBD to kick into action will be dependent on the concentration of the CBD product you are using, the type of condition you are addressing, your body composition, and the method of delivery — vaping, under the tongue, topical application, or oral consumption.

  • Taking CBD under the tongue will produce effects that kick in about 20 – 40 minutes after the use.
  • Topicals (lotion and salves) is usually the slowest since it can take about an hour for the effects to kick in.
  • Vaping CBD is another fast delivery system, producing effects relatively quickly.
  • CBD capsules take a longer amount of time because they have to be digested before the CBD compounds can be absorbed and put to work.

Because everyone is different, your experience in the amount of time it takes for CBD to work will vary — no two people are the same!

How Long Does CBD Take To Work?

Are There Side Effects To Taking CBD?

CBD is a well-tolerated herb — remember we are born with the ECS within us, it’s a system just like our immune system — and is generally recognized as safe. Think of CBD just as any other herb, vitamin, or mineral — it’s the same as taking turmeric or a multivitamin, simply follow the suggested dosage on the label and adjust the dose accordingly to find the ideal amount for your body.

Before taking any dietary supplement, consult your physician before use if you are pregnant, nursing, have or suspect a medical condition, or are taking any medications.

Full-spectrum CBD is the term used to refer to the cannabidiol that has not been separated from all other cannabinoids — stays intact, as opposed to an isolate — that are present in the cannabis plant.

In other words, when used, you will get trace amounts of THCV, CBN, CBG, and a host of terpenes within the finished product.

Since the full spectrum contains all the possible known cannabinoids, that also means there is the presence of THC in there. However, the THC content is very small, usually less than 0.3%.
